Sunderland A.F.C. is one of the current 20 clubs which are competing in the Premier League for the 2007/2008 season, being only their 6th overall season in the premier league starting from the 1996/1997 season They play at the Stadium of Light which currently has a 49,000 capacity. Their highest scorer in the premier league is Kevin Phillips, who was the top scorer in all of europe in the 1999/2000 season. The club will now feature in the 2008/2009 season.
